Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a patient care, teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School, and consistently ranks as a national leader among independent hospitals in National Institutes of Health funding. BIDMC is clinically affiliated with the Joslin Diabetes Center, is a research partner of Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center and is the official hospital of the Boston Red Sox. In 1996, Beth Israel Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital merged to form BIDMC.  The hospital has 651 licensed beds, including 473 medical/surgical beds, 77 critical care beds and 60 OB/GYN beds.  BIDMC received $132 million in NIH funding in 2016.
