The Yawkey Center for Cancer Care opened in January 2011. Created with guidance from many patients and families, it was built to advance clinical care, optimize patient safety, enhance the patient experience and provide a welcome and nurturing environment. The building includes 275,000 square feet of clinical and support space with 100 exam rooms, more than 150 infusion spaces, and 20 consultation rooms in the largest comprehensive cancer care center in the world. The building, designed by ZGF Architects LLP, achieved a LEED silver standard for its therapeutic benefits to patients, which include a healing garden and five green roofs.
