Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is a patient care, teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School, and consistently ranks as a national leader among independent hospitals in National Institutes of Health funding. BIDMC is clinically affiliated with the Joslin Diabetes Center, is a research partner of Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, and is the official hospital of the Boston Red Sox. The Shapiro Clinical Center building (formerly the original building of MassArt) opened in 1996 and is a historic landmark notable for its blend of art deco and modern gothic architecture. The hospital has 651 licensed beds, including 473 medical/surgical beds, 77 critical care beds and 60 OB/GYN beds. BIDMC received $132 million in NIH funding in 2016.
